It is always difficult to list out 10 best love movies. It is often so because some movies make an eternal imprint upon our minds and it becomes difficult for us to give chance to newer entrants. Most of these romantic movies and the characters in them become a part of our lives. I cannot assure that these are the 10 best all time Romantic movies the world has witnessed. But each of these movies has aroused many unspoken emotions. They have plucked the chords within and have coaxed me to loyally watch them with the same fondness even after years!
1. Gone with the Wind
This 10 time Academy award winner starring Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh continues to be a romantic favorite the world over. Even after seventy years, people continue to identify with the romance of Southern belle, Scarlet O’Hara and the vice Rhett Butler during the Civil War.
I am sure most of you might have not forgotten this movie starring Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart. The movie is a medley of love, lust and heroism. Casablanca movie reminds us of the choices a woman had to make when desire and morality came face to face. In the film Bogart left his love for the sake of his marriage and this till date is among the best farewell scenes ever.
3. My Fair Lady
I wonder how many of you would appreciate this romantic comedy. The conversations between Professor Higgins (Rex Harrison) and the flower seller Eliza Doolittle (Audrey Hepburn) are humorous, witty and yet intellectual. A tear would sure kiss your eye when Eliza dumps Professor Higgins.
The 1997 fictional romantic tale starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet is a recreation of an incident which is supposed to have happened in 1912. The movie not only entertained everyone with its music and photography, it literally made the audience cry when the hero died.
5. Romeo and Juliet
This Shakespearean tale about family feud and a tragic love story has been filmed many times. The one that remains immortal in the mind is the one starring Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey and released in 1968. Even after 400 years, Romeo and Juliet remains the most loved Love Story.
6. Wuthering Heights
The Wuthering Heights starring Merle Oberon and Sir Lawrence Olivier is truly the story of undying love. The movie also very well portrays the painful emotions of a burdened heart. Heathcliff, the stern romantic moor and the lead of this movie has played a very good role creating an undying impact.
7. An Officer and a Gentleman
This romantic movie starring Debra Winger and Richard Gere explores the true ups and downs of any relation. It is about an individual who realizes his inner strength after he enters an office. He woos a young factory worker but realizes it only later. The movie ends with his happy realization and their union.
8. The Notebook
This is yet another recent movie in the list of memorable romantic movies. It captivates inspite of using age-old love related bonding, separation, betrayal and such formulae. Ryan Gosling and Rachel Mac Adams have played their roles well.
9. Ever After
Ever After is a modern Cinderella tale with some new twists in it. Drew Barrymore plays an angelic Cinderella while Anjelica Houston plays the evil step-mother.
10. Love Story
This romantic movie showcases the sacrifices of two lovebirds. The role is heart touchingly portrayed by Ali Mc Graw and Ryan O’Neal.
